Welcome.
Dear OSArs,
Christmas is a time for celebration; a time for meeting up with friends; a time to catch up with your family and loved ones. I'm sure most of you have forged many close friendships within OSA, and are eager to catch up on what's been happening in this family (with 800+ members!) of ours. So - welcome to the first issue of Qingmiao, our all-new e-Newsletter which aims to bring you the latest updates on HKOSA in manageable bites. We aim to make Qingmiao a regular online publication, so be sure to look out for our issues over the next few months.
Four months have flown by since our inauguration in late August - and while the work has undoubtedly been tough, especially given that we only have six EXCO members, we've enjoyed ourselves tremendously as well. Our first external project, Global Confluence 2012, has been off to a good start with the first OC meeting held recently - and we anticipate great success for this new event over the coming months. You can read about this and other things we've been up to below.
Happy reading, and wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

External Secretary, 25th EXCO

What's been keeping us busy...
Global Confluence 2012

Our upcoming external project, Global Confluence 2012, has proven to be a series of firsts: it's the first year that OSA is hosting this particular project, and it's also the 25th EXCO's first external project. What's more, it's the first time that interviews have been organised by the EXCO for Organising Committee applicants - these were held successfully on 4th December at Ying Wa College, allowing us to differentiate and select the final 39 OCs from over 65 applicants. Following extensive discussions with our Advisors over a preliminary Proposal for this event, we are in the process of finalising our Proposal and will be sending this to all Advisors as soon as possible. The first OC meeting was also held at Ying Wa on 18th December, where we introduced a short ice-breaking game, so that OC members could get to know each other better.
Global Confluence is an external project for Form 3-5 students, centred around the concepts of globalisation and glocalisation, and how they affect countries at different levels of development. It will be held in February-April next year, and integrates the consulate visits and Booth Day from International Convergence, as well as the Forum from Youth Summit, with a new focus.

Christmas Gathering

Our Christmas Gathering took place on 24th December at La Lune French restaurant in Sheung Wan - special thanks to Justine (0727) for helping us arrange the venue. It was a great opportunity for just under 40 OSArs to share the festive joy with each other over a lovely lunch buffet, and to catch up with the latest happenings and goings-on of the Association. We also played an exciting round of 'dizzy ping pong', and were even treated to a surprise - a detailed analysis of different hairstyles by the hair-stylist owner of the restaurant! Here are some photos from the Gathering:
Mentorship Programme
This year's first Mentorship Programme session was held on 11th December at Ying Wa College. Unfortunately, attendance was low, especially among mentees and particularly the more recent OSArs, mainly because Form 5 and university exams were taking place at around the same time. Also, many Form 6 OSArs were studying for the HKDSE and were thus unable to attend. Those who attended (mostly Advisors) expressed concerns about the lack of structure and a planned rundown, for the session. Here, we would like to sincerely apologise for our oversight in this respect, and we will certainly address these issues at our next Mentorship Programme session.
Mid-Autumn Service

Our first social service session took place at Wong Tai Sin on 11th September, where we distributed Mid-Autumn foods and gifts to elderly residents of Wong Tai Sin Estate, together with several other youth groups and organisations. It was heart-warming for us to see how the elderly residents brightened up at the sight of us and our gifts, and how they could experience such joy from our very brief visits and chats. We were particularly touched by the positive attitude that they adopted towards life, despite their old age, cramped living conditions and loneliness.
Friendly Packs
Despite a slight delay due to printing issues, the Friendly Packs have been delivered to all of our member schools, partner organisations and media outlets, as well as Advisors who requested them, as of November.
Cooperation with our Partner Organisations

Our President (Nicholas Poon) and External Secretary (Keith Chan) were invited to attend The Hong Kong Institute of Directors Annual Dinner on 29th November, by our counterparts at the Youth Arch Foundation, which now oversees the Outstanding Students Award. We were also invited to attend the Student Improvement Award prize presentation ceremony on 10th December by Youth Arch at the World Trade Centre. We were able to gain useful insights and advice from Youth Arch regarding our plans and events in the coming year, through informal chats on both occasions.
Inauguration
Our inauguration took place on 27th August. Check out some of the unofficial inauguration photos we took at the Peak - a new location for a new decade:
